Horizontal Horizon | Original Acrylic Painting
Calm is a kind of rhythm.
Horizontal Horizon is a small, square abstract painting built from a single repeated gesture. On a bright white ground, short horizontal strokes of charcoal, slate, and ink-blue are laid down one above the other. They are tapered at the ends, with soft, dry-brushed edges where the bristles lifted, so each one reads like a breath or a ripple. Their lengths vary and they drift left and right, so the pattern feels steady without becoming mechanical.
Through them run thick, raised ribbons of paint. A wide band of rich violet sits near the top left, and a second, longer one lower down. Two smaller bands in soft orchid-pink and a short dark crimson one are tucked between them. A slim line of glossy black, flecked with gold, crosses near the top third. The paint stands off the canvas in rounded, bead-like ridges with a wet, enamel sheen, so they catch the light in a way the flat strokes do not. They all begin at the left edge and taper toward the center, as if poured from that side.
Along the bottom, a broad ribbon of deep crimson runs the full width of the canvas, and a soft blush of red spray fades up from the lower left corner, like the last light below a horizon.
The painting rests on contrast: flat against raised, cool against warm, and quiet strokes against bold ones. The white space lets everything breathe.
At 12" × 12", it is a small, graphic piece for a shelf, a desk, or a gallery wall, and it pairs well with Luminous Fracture and Kinetic Convergence as a set of small 2026 works.
For collectors who love minimalist abstraction with a little texture and a lot of color.
