Azure Currents | Original Acrylic Painting
Like a school of blooms drifting through deep water.
Azure Currents is a tall abstract painting set on a blue ground that deepens from top to bottom. Bright cerulean glows at the upper right and fades through cobalt to a dark, inky ultramarine at the lower left. The paint is scraped and stippled, so the surface looks like rippled water or frost on glass.
Moving through it are gestural forms that look like flowers, jellyfish, or sails. Wide fans of creamy white are dragged and twisted into trumpet shapes, each tapering to a long, thin stem. Their bristle marks show, and the blue breaks through the white in streaks. Matching forms in jet black loop and curl among them, with their centers scraped open so the blue shows through. Two thick bursts of canary yellow sit near the center, built up in ridged, torn layers that catch the light.
Thin, razor-sharp lines cross the whole painting. Long black diagonals form an X at the lower left, and a hairline of pale yellow-green runs nearly the height of the canvas through the left side of the forms. They give the soft, drifting shapes a pull and a sense of direction.
The painting plays serenity against energy. The blue is calm and watery, while the white, black, and yellow marks are quick and loud. It feels like a current with something alive moving through it.
At 24" × 20", it has real presence for a living room, an office, or a bedroom, and its blue, white, and yellow palette feels fresh and coastal without being literal.
