Whispers of the Timber is a small abstract painting that feels like that memory, rendered in earth tones. The canvas is divided into angled planes of warm brown, tan, dusty rose, and cool gray, and they overlap like slabs of weathered wood or the folds of a worn map. The colors move from sandy and soft on the left to deep chocolate and smoky gray on the right, so the whole piece seems to cool and darken as your eye travels across it.
Spray-painted stencil patterns give the surface its texture. Delicate lattices of stars and diamonds in brown and cream appear in the upper left, the top center, and the lower right, like carved screens or the faint impression of a pattern left on an old floor. The spray is soft and misty at the edges, so the patterns seem to surface and fade.
Across the center, white paint is flung and dragged in arcs and splatter, with fine threads and heavy pools, along with scattered dots of rust brown and slate. It adds a flash of life to the quiet palette, like light cutting through a forest, or a sudden gust through dry leaves.
