Midnight Blossom | Original Mixed-Media Painting
A flower that blooms around an eclipse.
Midnight Blossom is a bold, graphic floral painting set against a dark, speckled night. The ground is sprayed in deep brown, charcoal, and navy, fine as grit, with flecks of copper and rose-gold that catch the light like stardust or mineral in stone.
On the left and center, a five-petaled blossom glows in layered blues: cobalt, ultramarine, and aqua, with soft, mottled brushwork that looks like deep water. Each petal is edged in pale sky blue and white, with thin black accent lines along the curve. Soft peach-cream ovals sit in the middle of the petals, and small white "eyes" with blue centers and black lids dot the surface like watchful pupils or tiny moons. Fine white and lavender strands curve in toward the center like petals pulled toward a drain.
At the heart of the flower sits a solid black disc, ringed with thin black lashes and short white arrows. It reads like a total eclipse, or a pupil, and everything in the flower seems to be pulled toward it.
On the right and bottom, the petals dissolve into the dark. The same shapes are drawn in the speckled spray of copper, rose, and cream, so they look like fossils, rubbings, or a flower seen in moonlight. It is as if the bloom were half alive and half turning to stone. At the lower center, a ghosted petal with its own small "eye" fades into the ground.
The contrast is the heart of the piece: smooth, luminous blue against gritty, earthen dark, and a living flower sinking into the night.
At 20" × 16", it has the presence for an entryway, a bedroom, or a dining room, and it pairs well with Frozen Bloom, Night Bloom, and Golden Bloom as a set of floral works.
For collectors who love bold botanical abstraction with a mystical edge.
